Duro-Shield™ Coatings Overview

With constant exposure to heat, cold, UV radiation, rain, snow, hail, high winds and possible mechanical damage, a roof can be the most vulnerable component of a building’s exterior. However, a roof’s long-term performance can be enhanced — and major roofing problems avoided — with correct design, quality materials, proper installation and workmanship, and comprehensive care.

Duro-Shield Roof Coatings and Materials – available in Duro-Shield 20, Duro-Shield 10 and Duro-Shield 5 - are 100% elastomeric acrylic and are designed to seal and protect a variety of substrates. Their brilliant white finish reflects the sun’s rays, which can lower heat buildup and reduce energy costs.

When properly prepared and applied in accordance with Duro-Last^®’s specifications, the Duro-Shield line of roof coatings can be used on the following roof substrates:

• Single-ply membranes:
• PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
• EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer)
• Hypalon CSPE (chlorosulfonated polyethylene)
• Metal
• Mineral and granule-surface built up (BUR) and modified bitumen
• Smooth-surfaced built up (BUR) and modified bitumen
• Wood

Additional Duro-Shield Products

In addition to the Duro-Shield line of roof coatings, there are other supporting products in the coatings family:

• Duro-Shield Primer: Formulated with a rust inhibiting compound, the application of this primer is required on select substrates before using any of the Duro-Shield coatings. Detailed primer requirements can be found in the Duro-Shield Installation Guide.
• Duro-Shield Brush Grade Mastic: Heavy-bodied, flexible, elastomeric caulk and sealant for filling and patching cracks and voids in various substrates prior to application of Duro-Shield Primer and roof coatings.
• Polyester Reinforcement Fabric: Used with Duro-Caulk^® Advanced, this flexible polyester fabric creates strong, resilient bonds by reinforcing seams, flashings and penetrations.
